Short Term:

While the Democrats have labled themselves as against the act, and have promised to reform the law, however the Obama administration did not stop or reform the language of the law. Due to their inability to take action again the USA PATRIOT act early and to the level of importance of other public policy issues the Obama administration is facing right now, the law does not seem likely to be changed in the near future. While interest groups and media sources continue to bombard the act as unconstitutional, the courts are taking their time to carefully review the language and compare it to the constitutional practices the government is to adhere to.

Long Term:

While most of the short term policies do not look hopeful for change, many forces are moving towards attempting to remodel or destroy the USA PATRIOT act. With the courts reviewing the law, and interest groups continuing to take political action, it will only be a matter of time until the political parties must act in order to mobilize people to the polls for re-election.
